Brystmålet

Brystmålet refers to the measurement of a person's chest circumference. This measurement is commonly taken for various practical purposes, including tailoring clothing, particularly for garments like bras, shirts, and suits. In the context of clothing, accurate brystmål ensures a proper fit, comfort, and aesthetic appearance. For bras, the measurement is crucial for determining the correct band size, which wraps around the rib cage, and is often taken in conjunction with a bust measurement (the circumference around the fullest part of the breasts) to determine the cup size.

Beyond clothing, brystmål can also be a parameter in certain physical assessments or health monitoring. For example, it might be used in medical contexts to track changes in chest expansion related to respiratory function or to assess body composition. In sports and fitness, chest circumference can be an indicator of upper body muscle development. The method for taking a brystmål typically involves a flexible measuring tape placed horizontally around the chest, usually just below the shoulder blades at the back and across the nipples at the front. It's important that the tape is snug but not constricting, and that the person being measured exhales normally. The resulting number, usually in centimeters or inches, constitutes the brystmål.
