Bronhiit

Bronhiit is an inflammation of the bronchial tubes, the airways that carry air to and from your lungs. This inflammation causes the lining of your bronchial tubes to become irritated and inflamed, leading to swelling and the production of mucus. There are two main types of bronchitis: acute and chronic.

Acute bronchitis is a sudden, short-term inflammation that usually develops from a cold or other respiratory infection. Symptoms often include a cough that may produce mucus, fatigue, shortness of breath, and a low-grade fever. It typically resolves within a few weeks, though the cough can linger. Treatment usually involves rest, fluids, and over-the-counter medications for symptom relief. Antibiotics are generally not effective as acute bronchitis is most often caused by viruses.

Chronic bronchitis is a more serious condition and is defined as a persistent cough that produces mucus for at least three months in two consecutive years. It is often caused by long-term exposure to irritants, most commonly cigarette smoke. Other causes include air pollution and dust or chemical fumes. Symptoms can include a chronic cough, increased mucus production, wheezing, and shortness of breath. Chronic bronchitis is a form of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and is a progressive condition that cannot be cured but can be managed. Treatment focuses on managing symptoms, preventing exacerbations, and improving quality of life. This may include bronchodilators, inhaled corticosteroids, pulmonary rehabilitation, and avoiding irritants.
