Brennevin
Brennevin is a term used in Nordic languages to refer to distilled alcoholic beverages, essentially “spirits” or hard liquor. The word derives from the idea of distillation or burning, and it covers a wide range of products produced by fermenting and then distilling ingredients such as grain, potatoes, or fruit. In different countries the term can have slightly different usage, but it generally denotes any alcohol with a relatively high alcohol by volume (ABV) and is distinct from fermented beverages like beer or wine.
In practice, brennevin encompasses both neutral spirits (such as vodka or gin) and flavored distilled drinks
Brennivín is also the name of Iceland’s best-known brennevin. This specific product is a caraway- and angelica-flavored
