Boutparen

Boutparen is a small commune in the fictional nation of Valoria, located in the northern Valorian plain near the Bout River. The municipality spans about 9.3 square kilometers and has a rural character, with farmland interspersed by small woodlands and a historic village center.

The name Boutparen is believed to derive from early medieval terms referring to a "border farm" or outlying homestead. The settlement developed around a parish church in the 12th century, with market activity expanding in the late medieval period. In the 19th century, a railway branch connected Boutparen to larger towns, spurring growth, although railway services were reduced in the late 20th century. Today, the village preserves several heritage buildings and a traditional town square.

Boutparen is governed by a municipal council of 11 members, headed by a mayor elected to a six-year term. It forms part of a larger intercommunal structure for shared services such as waste management and regional planning. The local economy centers on agriculture—primarily cereals and dairy—along with small-scale crafts and rural tourism. Several farms offer agritourism experiences.

Cultural life centers on annual events such as the Fête de Bout and the Saint-Vincent Church, a 12th-century stone building, as well as a stone bridge over the Bout River dating to the 18th century. The population, around 2,700 as of 2022, is predominantly native to the region, with a mix of families and retirees. Transport relies on regional roads and bus connections to surrounding towns, with the nearest rail links located in neighboring municipalities.
