Bombardments are sustained attacks in which a target area is repeatedly fired upon with artillery, naval guns, or aircraft-delivered ordnance. The aim is to weaken defenders, destroy equipment and infrastructure, and disrupt the enemy’s ability to wage war. Bombardment can occur during sieges, as a prelude to assault, or as part of a broader campaign.
