Bohrmethoden refer to a variety of techniques used to create holes or shafts in materials, primarily for excavation, resource extraction, or construction purposes. These methods are broadly categorized into rotary drilling, percussive drilling, and specialized techniques.

Rotary drilling involves rotating a cutting tool, often a drill bit, against the material. This rotation, combined with downward pressure, grinds away the material. Different types of drill bits, such as roller cone bits or diamond bits, are employed depending on the hardness and type of rock or soil being drilled. This method is widely used in oil and gas exploration, water well drilling, and geotechnical investigations.

Percussive drilling, also known as hammer drilling, utilizes a hammering action to fracture and break down the material. A hammer, either attached directly to the drill bit or delivered through a pneumatic or hydraulic system, strikes the rock repeatedly. The fragmented material is then removed by flushing with air or water. This method is efficient for hard rock formations and is commonly used in mining and construction for blast hole drilling.

Specialized drilling methods include directional drilling, which allows for the creation of curved or horizontal boreholes, often used for pipeline installation or accessing reservoirs from multiple angles. Augering uses a screw-like mechanism to excavate material, suitable for softer soils and shallow excavations. Core drilling, on the other hand, is designed to extract cylindrical samples of the material, crucial for geological and material analysis. The choice of drilling method depends on factors such as the intended purpose of the borehole, the geological conditions, cost considerations, and environmental impact.
