Bodenbelüftung

Bodenbelüftung, also known as floor ventilation, refers to systems designed to provide fresh air directly from the floor level within a building. This method of air distribution differs from traditional overhead ventilation, where air is typically supplied from ceiling diffusers. The primary goal of Bodenbelüftung is to improve indoor air quality by efficiently displacing stale air and delivering conditioned air to the occupants' breathing zone.

This system often involves a raised floor or a subfloor plenum through which air is channeled. Perforated floor tiles or grilles are then strategically placed to release the air into the occupied space. The rising plume of warmer, potentially polluted air is then drawn upwards towards exhaust vents, typically located near the ceiling. This displacement ventilation principle can lead to lower energy consumption compared to mixing ventilation, as it requires less energy to condition the air that is actually used.

Bodenbelüftung is commonly found in environments where high air quality is critical, such as offices, data centers, theaters, and certain healthcare facilities. Its advantages include enhanced thermal comfort, reduced draft risk when properly designed, and the ability to provide localized ventilation where needed. However, proper installation and maintenance are crucial to ensure its effectiveness and prevent issues like dust accumulation in the underfloor void. The design must also consider potential noise levels and the integration with other building services.
