Blockone

Blockone, commonly written Block.one, is a technology company best known for developing EOSIO, a blockchain software platform designed for scalable decentralized applications. Founded in 2017 by Brendan Blumer and Daniel Larimer, Block.one led the development of EOSIO and conducted a high-profile initial coin offering (ICO) from 2017 to 2018 that reportedly raised around $4 billion, placing it among the largest ICOs at the time.

EOSIO is an open-source blockchain protocol that uses delegated proof-of-stake (DPoS) to achieve high throughput and rapid finality. It supports smart contracts written in C++ and provides governance features in which token holders vote to elect block producers. The platform emphasizes scalability, offering resource management for RAM, CPU, and network bandwidth through market-based mechanisms.

In 2019, Block.one agreed to settle with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission over charges related to unregistered sale of securities in the EOS ICO, paying a civil penalty of $24 million without admitting or denying wrongdoing. After the settlement, Block.one continued to contribute to the EOSIO ecosystem through ongoing development, open-source releases, and support for developers, while EOSIO governance remains driven by the community and block producers.

Block.one’s activities have largely focused on maintaining and expanding the EOSIO software ecosystem, developing open-source blockchain tooling, and supporting enterprise and developer initiatives within the EOSIO ecosystem.
