Biosfäärialueilla
Biosfäärialueilla, often translated as Biosphere Reserves, are areas designated by UNESCO's Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Programme. These reserves are intended to demonstrate a balanced relationship between people and nature. They are not just protected areas in the traditional sense, but rather sites for testing and showcasing integrated approaches to conservation and sustainable development. Biosphere reserves are organized into three interconnected zones: the core area, the buffer zone, and the transition area. The core area is strictly protected for conservation purposes, while the buffer zone surrounds the core and is used for research, education, and eco-tourism activities that are compatible with conservation goals. The transition area is where local communities engage in sustainable economic activities, such as agriculture, forestry, and tourism, while also contributing to conservation efforts. The primary goals of biosphere reserves are to conserve biodiversity, promote sustainable development, and support research, environmental monitoring, education, and training. They serve as learning places for sustainable development and aim to involve local communities in their management and decision-making processes. Biosphere reserves are part of a global network, allowing for international cooperation and exchange of experiences.
