Bilineaarista

Bilineaarista is the partitive singular form of the Finnish adjective bilineaarinen, meaning bilinear. In mathematical language, bilinear describes a map that is linear in each of its two arguments separately. If V and W are vector spaces over a field F, a map f: V × W → X is bilinear when for all u, u' in V, v, v' in W, and scalars α, β in F, f(u+u', v) = f(u, v) + f(u', v), f(u, v+v') = f(u, v) + f(u, v'), and f(αu, βv) = αβ f(u, v). A common special case is a bilinear form f: V × V → F, which is linear in each argument and returns a scalar.

A familiar example is the dot product on R^n, which is a symmetric bilinear form: it is linear in both arguments and yields a real number. More generally, many bilinear forms can be represented as f(u, v) = u^T A v for some matrix A. Bilinear maps also appear incontexts where the output lies in a different space, not just scalars, as long as linearity holds in each argument.

Bilinear concepts are used across mathematics and applied disciplines, including geometry, physics, computer graphics, and numerical analysis. They underpin constructions such as inner products, bilinear interpolation, and various representations of linear transformations. In Finnish mathematical writing, bilineaarinen is described with the form bilineaarista when used in the partitive case, for example in phrases like bilineaarista muotoa (a bilinear form) or bilineaarista toimintaa (bilinear operation).
