Bergrecht
Bergrecht, literally “mining law,” is the body of rules that govern the exploration, extraction, processing, and sale of mineral resources in German-speaking areas. Historically, Bergrecht referred to the sovereign or feudal rights to mine and to regulate mineral resources, distinct from general civil law. It encompassed the granting of mining privileges, definitions of mining claims, procedures for licensing and compliance, taxation and royalties, and the duties and responsibilities of mining operators.
