Ballarò

Ballarò is a historic district located in Palermo, the capital city of Sicily, Italy. The district takes its name from the Arabic word "ballar," meaning "adorno" or "ornamented," possibly due to its decorative architecture or intricate mosaics.

Ballarò is situated in the eastern part of Palermo's city center and is characterized by narrow streets and a labyrinthine layout. The district is known for its well-preserved Baroque and Medieval architecture, with several churches, palaces, and gardens.

Historically, Ballarò was a significant commercial hub in the northern shore of Sicily. Merchants and traders from various parts of the Mediterranean, as well as from the eastern and central Sicily, gathered in this district to engage in trade. Its markets featured goods such as textiles, clothing, and food.

The architectural concentration in Ballarò is mostly made up of red buildings. These brick structures were built in different times throughout the centuries.
