These tests may include culturing the bacteria from a sample, such as blood, urine, or tissue, to identify the specific pathogen and determine its susceptibility to antibiotics. Microscopic examination and molecular methods like PCR can also be used for rapid identification.

Treatment for bacterial infections primarily relies on antibiotics, which are drugs that kill bacteria or inhibit their growth. However, the increasing prevalence of antibiotic resistance is a significant concern, as some bacteria have evolved to resist the effects of commonly used antibiotics, making infections harder to treat. Prevention strategies include good hygiene practices, such as handwashing, safe food handling, vaccination, and prompt medical attention for suspected infections.
