Avsekularisering

Avsekularisering is a term used in Scandinavian languages to describe processes in which religious influence increases or religious institutions regain public prominence after a period characterized by secularization. It is often discussed in debates about modern social change, where church, state, and civil society interact in ways that reassert religious norms, identities, or authority in public life.

Definition and scope: Avsekularisering refers to a reversal or slowing of secularization in specific spheres, such as politics, education, media, or culture. It does not imply a uniform return of religion across all aspects of society, but rather a renewed visibility or influence of religious actors, beliefs, or symbols in public affairs.
