Aviorikos

Aviorikos is a genus of birds belonging to the family Certhiidae, commonly known as treecreepers. This genus currently comprises two species: Aviorikos sitticolor and Aviorikos himalayanus. These small passerine birds are characterized by their drab brown and white plumage, slender downward-curving bills, and stiff tail feathers that aid them in climbing.

Aviorikos sitticolor, often called the Eurasian treecreeper or common treecreeper, is found across Europe and Asia. It inhabits forests, woodlands, and orchards, where it forages for insects and spiders on the bark of trees. Its nest is typically built in crevices or hollows of trees, lined with moss and feathers.

Aviorikos himalayanus, the Himalayan treecreeper, is native to the Himalayan region of Asia. Similar in appearance and behavior to its Eurasian counterpart, it is found in coniferous and mixed forests at higher elevations. Both species exhibit a characteristic creeping motion as they spiral up tree trunks, probing bark crevices with their specialized bills. Their song is generally a series of high-pitched, thin notes. While closely related, subtle differences in vocalizations and slight variations in plumage distinguish the two species.
