Audiofájls are digital representations of sound. They store sound waves in a format that can be processed, stored, and played back by electronic devices. The process of creating an audio file typically involves converting analog sound signals into digital data through a process called sampling. During sampling, the amplitude of the sound wave is measured at regular intervals, and these measurements are then converted into binary code.

The quality of an audio file is determined by several factors, including the sample rate and bit depth. The sample rate refers to the number of samples taken per second, with higher sample rates generally resulting in more accurate sound reproduction. Bit depth indicates the number of bits used to represent each sample, and a higher bit depth allows for a wider dynamic range and more nuanced sound.

Audio files come in various formats, each with its own characteristics and uses. Some common uncompressed formats include WAV and AIFF, which offer high fidelity but result in larger file sizes. Compressed formats, such as MP3 and AAC, reduce file size by removing some audio information that is less perceptible to the human ear, making them suitable for streaming and storage. Lossless compressed formats, like FLAC, reduce file size without sacrificing any audio data. Audio files are fundamental to modern digital media, used in music, podcasts, voice recordings, and various other applications.
