Audioefektejä, often translated as audio effects, are electronic or digital modifications applied to sound signals. These manipulations alter the character of the sound in various ways, ranging from subtle enhancements to radical transformations. They are a fundamental tool in music production, film sound design, broadcasting, and live sound reinforcement.

The purpose of audio effects can be to correct deficiencies in a sound, such as reducing noise or equalization, or to creatively shape a sound to achieve a desired aesthetic. Common effects include reverberation, which simulates the natural echoes of a space; delay, which creates repetitions of the sound; and distortion, which adds harmonics and grit. Other popular effects include compression, used to control dynamic range; chorus, which thickens and widens a sound; and flanger and phaser, which create sweeping, swirling textures.

Audio effects can be implemented using analog hardware, such as stompboxes for guitars or rackmount units, or through digital signal processing (DSP). Digital effects are often available as software plugins within digital audio workstations (DAWs) or as dedicated hardware processors. The creative application of audio effects is crucial for shaping the sonic landscape of modern media, enabling artists and engineers to craft unique and compelling auditory experiences.
