Atribuudipõhist is an Estonian term that translates to "attribute-based" in English. It refers to a concept or system where decisions, operations, or data organization are primarily determined by the characteristics or properties of the entities involved. This approach is common in various fields, including computer science, information management, and even in social and economic contexts.

In computer science, attribute-based access control (ABAC) is a prominent example. Instead of assigning permissions to specific users or groups, ABAC grants access based on attributes associated with the user, the resource, and the environment. For instance, a user might be granted access to a document only if their "role" attribute is "editor" and the "sensitivity" attribute of the document is "confidential." This allows for more dynamic and fine-grained control over resources.

Attribute-based data models organize information around the attributes of objects rather than fixed relationships. This can lead to more flexible data structures that can easily accommodate new types of information without requiring schema redesigns. Similarly, attribute-based pricing in e-commerce might adjust the price of a product based on various factors like customer loyalty, purchase history, or current demand, all of which are attributes. The core idea is to leverage the descriptive properties of things to guide actions and manage information.
