Arveldus is a fictional city-state in a high-fantasy setting. It sits on the northern coast of the continent of Elaria, bordered by the Grey Mountains to the north and the Serene Bay to the south. It has a temperate maritime climate and a harbor that handles regional trade, connecting inland markets with coastal routes.

History

Founded in the early Middle Ages by a coalition of mercantile guilds seeking autonomy from larger kingdoms, Arveldus grew into a commercial hub known for shipyards and glasswork. A late medieval reform established a mixed government and a city charter granting merchants substantial self-governance. The city endured sieges and plagues but remained an important center of trade and craft.

Government

Arveldus is governed by a magistrate elected for a five-year term and a City Council consisting of guild delegates and lay representatives.
