Aromatiset

Aromatiset is a term used to describe a standardized approach to encoding and reproducing aromas in consumer goods and immersive environments. It refers to a system that combines a library of aroma profiles, a coding scheme, and a delivery method to ensure consistent scent experiences across products.

The Aromatiset library comprises curated mixtures of natural and synthetic aroma compounds grouped into profiles that represent commonly sought scent families, such as citrus, floral, green, woody, spicy, and gourmand. Each profile is defined by a set of core notes, optional modifiers, and concentration ranges.

The coding scheme assigns a unique identifier to each profile and records metadata such as dominant notes, intensity, and typical usage. The system supports customization by adjusting note balance or substituting ingredients within safety guidelines.

Delivery methods vary from microencapsulated scent panels integrated into packaging, to active scent delivery units in retail settings, to digital scent emission for virtual or augmented reality experiences.

Applications include fragranced cosmetics and personal care products, beverages and snacks, household cleaners, and brand storytelling. It is used by product developers to achieve consistent aroma across batches and regions.

Safety and regulation follow general fragrance industry standards, including allergen labeling, good manufacturing practice, and risk assessment for inhalation or dermal exposure. Limitations include subjectivity of smell, aging of compounds, and cost considerations.
