Armatureströmmen

Armatureströmmen, often translated as armature current, refers to the electric current flowing through the windings of the armature in an electric motor or generator. The armature is the rotating part of an electric machine that carries the conductors where the electromotive force (EMF) is induced or where the torque is produced. The magnitude of the armature current is a crucial parameter in the operation of these machines.

In a DC motor, armature current is directly proportional to the torque produced by the motor. A higher armature current generally results in a stronger magnetic field interaction and thus greater rotational force. Conversely, in a DC generator, the armature current represents the electrical power being delivered by the generator to an external load. The direction of the armature current is determined by the direction of the induced EMF and the polarity of the external circuit.

The armature current is influenced by several factors, including the applied voltage, the back EMF generated by the motor's rotation (which opposes the applied voltage), and the resistance of the armature windings and external circuit. Under no-load conditions, the armature current in a motor is minimal, primarily overcoming internal losses. Under heavy loads, the armature current increases significantly to meet the demand for torque or power. Understanding and controlling armature current is essential for efficient and safe operation of electric machines.
