Arizelocichla

Arizelocichla is a genus of birds in the family Pycnonotidae, commonly known as greenbuls. These birds are found in tropical Africa. The genus currently contains five species. Arizelocichla species are typically medium-sized, olive-green birds with distinctive white or pale irises. They inhabit a variety of forest types, including lowland rainforest, montane forest, and forest edges. Their diet consists mainly of insects and fruit.

The species within Arizelocichla are Arizelocichla chloronotus, Arizelocichla fusciceps, Arizelocichla milanjensis, Arizelocichla olivaceiceps, and Arizelocichla sethsmithi. Historically, some of these species were considered subspecies of other greenbuls, but phylogenetic studies have led to their recognition as distinct species. Their vocalizations often play a role in identification, with varied songs and calls among the species.

Breeding behavior is not extensively documented for all species, but generally, they are thought to build cup-shaped nests in trees or shrubs and lay clutches of two to three eggs. Conservation statuses vary among the species, with some considered of Least Concern while others face threats due to habitat loss and fragmentation. Continued research is important for understanding the ecology and conservation needs of the Arizelocichla genus.
