Arelia is a fictional coastal city-state in the speculative setting of Valora. It functions as a commercial and cultural center within its region. The city occupies a crescent bay with a natural harbor and a nearby river delta, giving it both maritime and agricultural connections. The climate is temperate, with mild winters and warm summers.

History reveals that Arelia was founded in the 9th century by merchant clans and grew as a key trading node linking inland towns to seaborne routes. It achieved de facto independence in the 12th century and later joined the League of Port Cities. The city endured sieges during regional conflicts and experienced modernization and reform movements in the 18th through 20th centuries.

Government is structured around three branches: the Grand Council, composed of elected representatives from districts; the Merchants’ Court, which oversees trade regulation; and the People’s Assembly, which can propose legislation. The Magistrate, elected for a five-year term, chairs the executive and oversees administration.

Economy centers on fisheries, shipbuilding, and wholesale commerce, complemented by textiles, crafts, and tourism. The currency is the Arelian dinar. The harbor hosts international exchanges and regional shipyards that produce sailing vessels and small craft.
