Arbeitgeber is the German noun for "employer," referring to an individual or organization that hires workers. In standard German, the genitive singular is des Arbeitgebers and the plural is die Arbeitgeber; a form like Arbeitgebers is not used as the base plural. The term is commonly contrasted with Arbeitnehmer (employee) in discussions of work relations, contracts, and rights.

The employer’s role is to provide work opportunities, define job duties, and determine terms of employment including compensation, benefits, and working conditions. Employers recruit, onboard, and manage staff, assess performance, and enforce workplace rules.
