Applicatifs

Applicatifs refers to the software applications that support business processes and user activities within information technology. They are the programs that run on computers and networks to perform tasks such as data entry, calculation, reporting, communication, and automation of workflows. They are distinct from system software (operating systems, middleware) and from infrastructure hardware, though they must operate within an IT environment.

Applications can be packaged solutions (ERP, CRM, HRIS, SCM, BI) or custom-developed software tailored to an organization's needs. They are commonly categorized as core métiers applications and transversal or support applications. Core applications automate key business processes, while transversal applications provide cross-cutting capabilities like document management, business intelligence, workflow, and collaboration.

Deployment models include on-premises, cloud-based, or hybrid arrangements (SaaS, PaaS, IaaS). Modern applicatifs increasingly rely on APIs and integration middleware to exchange data with other systems while ensuring data consistency across the enterprise.

Governance concerns encompass selection, procurement, project management, implementation, maintenance, upgrades, and sunset planning. Interoperability and data governance are essential, as applicatifs generate data that feeds decision-making and analytics. Security and regulatory compliance must be addressed throughout the application lifecycle.

Relation to enterprise architecture is central: applicatifs are mapped to business processes, information flows and data models to ensure alignment, interoperability, and a scalable IT landscape.
