Anzugsmoments

Anzugsmomente, plural of Anzugsmoment, denotes the torque that is applied to a fastener during assembly to develop a specified clamping force. The term is used in German technical literature and is equivalent to tightening torque in English. The goal is to achieve adequate preload to keep joints together under service loads while avoiding bolt yielding or thread damage.

Measured in newton meters (N·m) in the SI system; in some contexts foot-pound (ft·lbf) values appear. Tightening torques are determined from design requirements or manufacturer charts and depend on bolt size and grade, joint geometry, lubricant, thread condition, and temperature.

Because torque is a function of friction as well as clamp load, the same torque on different surfaces can yield different clamp forces. Lubrication or surface coatings lower friction and increase the clamped force for a given torque; dry or dirty threads require lower torque to avoid over-tensioning. The commonly used equation T = K × d × F captures this relationship, where T is torque, d is nominal bolt diameter, F is clamping force, and K is the torque coefficient (often called the nut factor).

Practitioners apply Anzugsmomente using torque wrenches or torque-angle methods. Torque wrenches deliver a specific torque; the torque-angle method measures the rotation after reaching a reference torque to account for elastic bolt stretch. Documentation and charts from manufacturers or standards guide the correct values for each fastener.

Incorrect torques can cause joint leaks, fatigue, loosening, or bolt failure. Therefore, Anzugsmomente are part of engineering drawings, maintenance manuals, and quality control, with periodic verification and lubrication status considered during service.
