Anturiyhteys

Anturiyhteys, a compound term from Finnish meaning sensor connection, refers to the electrical and communicational interface between a sensor and the system that uses its data. It encompasses the power supply, signal transmission, and the data protocol or method by which measurements are conveyed to a controller, processor, or display. In Finnish technical literature the term may appear as anturiyhteys or anturi-yhteys.

The types of anturiyhteys vary with the sensor and application. Analog sensors often provide a voltage or current signal, such as 0–10 V or 4–20 mA, requiring appropriate excitation and conversion at the receiver. Digital sensors may communicate via serial protocols such as I2C, SPI, or UART, while some systems use fieldbus standards like CAN, Modbus, or PROFIBUS. Wireless sensor connections—using Bluetooth, Zigbee, or LoRa—are also common in distributed or remote sensing setups. Many sensors require some form of signal conditioning, including amplification, filtering, or level shifting, and some need galvanic isolation for safety and noise reduction.

The physical layer involves cabling, connectors, shielding, and grounding. Choices affect signal integrity, with considerations for cable length, impedance, and susceptibility to electromagnetic interference. Power delivery is part of the connection, and in many cases isolation devices or opto-isolators protect the host from transients. Good practices include proper decoupling, short and well-shielded runs, and a coherent grounding scheme to minimize noise and ground loops.

Applications of anturiyhteys span industrial automation, automotive systems, consumer electronics, and environmental monitoring. Standards and interfaces commonly encountered include I2C, SPI, UART, CAN, Modbus, and related EMC and safety guidelines.
