Indexed annuities credit interest based on an index with caps and participation rates. Riders may be added for inflation protection, death benefits, or enhanced withdrawal rules.

Taxation and regulation vary by jurisdiction. In many places, earnings within an annuity grow tax-deferred until withdrawals, with taxes typically applied to the earnings portion upon distribution. Fees and surrender charges can apply, especially for early withdrawals or certain riders. Insurer solvency and product oversight are important considerations for purchasers.
