Analogiaan

Analogiaan is a fictional language family created for worldbuilding and speculative fiction. It is the linguistic core of the people of the Analogia Archipelago, a trading belt in the northern seas. The name reflects the language’s emphasis on encoding complex analogies and cross-domain reasoning in everyday discourse.

Linguistically, Analogiaan is described as predominantly analytic, with a subject–verb–object default word order and limited inflection. Verbs take aspect particles rather than tense inflections, and pronouns distinguish inclusive and exclusive "we." Nouns show few morphological case markers but employ postposed relational clitics to indicate possession and spatial relations. The lexicon features frequent metaphorical derivation, allowing speakers to form new terms by combining root concepts with cross-domain analogues.

Phonology is characterized by a mid-sized consonant inventory and five vowels, with stress typically falling on the penultimate syllable. The writing system is logophonemic, combining a compact syllabary for core morphemes with logographs representing functional categories such as time, space, and relation. Analogiaan writing often includes interlinear glosses to show analogue connections in a sentence’s meaning.

Two major dialects are documented: Northern Analogiaan and Southern Analogiaan, each with distinct phonetic shifts and lexical preferences but mutually intelligible to proficient speakers. In literature and philosophy within the fictional world, Analogiaan is praised for its capacity to compactly express theoretical analogies, and criticized for its analytic load and metaphorical density.

Analogiaan appears in novels, games, and academic-style treatises within the setting, and is commonly studied by in-universe linguists as an example of language-structured thought.
