Akrüülplastmass

Akrüülplastmass, also known as acrylic glass or polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), is a transparent thermoplastic known for its strength, clarity, and resistance to weathering. It is a synthetic polymer derived from methacrylic acid. Commonly referred to by brand names like Plexiglas, Lucite, and Perspex, acrylic plastic is often used as a lighter and more shatter-resistant alternative to glass.

The production of acrylic plastic typically involves the polymerization of methyl methacrylate monomers. This process can be carried out through bulk polymerization, solution polymerization, or suspension polymerization, yielding different forms and properties of the final material. Acrylic plastic can be manufactured in sheets, rods, tubes, and other shapes.

Acrylic plastic is valued for its exceptional optical clarity, transmitting up to 92% of visible light. It is also significantly more impact-resistant than standard glass, making it safer in applications where breakage is a concern. Furthermore, it exhibits good UV resistance, meaning it does not yellow or degrade significantly when exposed to sunlight over time.

Its applications are diverse and widespread. It is commonly found in windows, skylights, aquarium tanks, signage, display cases, automotive lighting, and protective barriers. Its ability to be easily molded, cut, and polished also makes it a popular choice for artistic and design purposes. Acrylic plastic can be bonded using solvents or adhesives and can be thermoformed into various shapes when heated. It is also available in a wide range of colors and finishes.
