Airelimination

Airelimination is a term used to describe processes that remove air from a space, system, or substance in order to improve performance, safety, or efficiency. The concept encompasses removing entrained or dissolved air from liquids, venting trapped air from spaces, and de- aerating entire equipment circuits. While the term is not universally standardized, it is used in some engineering and manufacturing contexts to differentiate dedicated air-removal steps from general ventilation.

Methods used to achieve airelimination vary by application. Mechanical degassing or deaeration employs vacuum chambers, centrifugation, or ultrasonic energy to separate air from liquids. Sparging with inert gas or vacuum annealing can reduce dissolved gases. Membrane-based degassing uses gas-permeable membranes to vent air while retaining liquids. In piping and hydraulic systems, air elimination often relies on automatic vents, air-release valves, or continuous purge with inert gas to prevent reintroduction of air. Thermal methods, such as controlled heating and cooling, may also promote air release in some materials.

Applications span multiple industries. In pharmaceuticals and food processing, airelimination helps prevent oxidation, cavitation, and inconsistent dosing. In power generation and industrial water treatment, deaeration of feedwater reduces corrosion and improves efficiency. Semiconductor manufacturing and precision optics often require highly air-free environments to avoid bubbles and contaminants. Packaging and beverage industries use purging with inert gas to extend shelf life and preserve product quality.
