Agordo

Agordo is a town and comune in the province of Belluno, in the Veneto region of northern Italy. It is the administrative center of the Agordino, a historic subregion of the Dolomites.

The town is situated in the Val Agordo in the Dolomites, an Alpine landscape popular for outdoor activities. It lies at relatively high elevation and serves as a regional services hub for the surrounding valleys.

The area has medieval roots and developed as a market town in the Middle Ages. It was part of the Republic of Venice and later of the Austrian Empire before becoming part of Italy in 1866. The Dolomites front of World War I affected the region and left fortifications and memorials in the area.

The local economy is primarily driven by tourism linked to the Dolomites, including hiking in summer and winter sports in nearby resorts. Other sectors include crafts, services, and light industry. The town is served by regional roads; rail access is limited, with the nearest connections in larger nearby towns.

Agordo preserves historical churches and civic buildings dating from the medieval and early modern periods. Local festivals and traditional alpine culture are observed in the community.
