AegisSM3
AegisSM3, typically referred to simply as SM-3, is the Standard Missile-3 family of ballistic missile defense interceptors used with the Aegis Combat System. It is an exo-atmospheric, hit-to-kill interceptor designed to defeat short- to intermediate-range ballistic missiles by destroying warheads in space or at high altitude during midcourse or terminal flight. Interceptors are launched from Mk 41 vertical launch systems on Aegis-equipped warships and from ground-based Aegis Ashore facilities.
