Adressekapasiteter refers to the maximum amount of memory that a computer system can address or access. This is fundamentally determined by the width of the system's address bus. An address bus is a control bus that carries memory addresses from the processor to the main memory, or to any other device that can be addressed. The number of bits in the address bus dictates how many unique memory locations can be identified.

For example, a system with a 32-bit address bus can generate 2^32 unique addresses. Each address typically points to a byte of memory. Therefore, a 32-bit system can theoretically address 2^32 bytes, which is 4 gigabytes (GB) of RAM. Similarly, a 64-bit address bus can address 2^64 bytes, a vastly larger amount of memory, practically unlimited for current consumer hardware.
