Adathalászhívás refers to a type of phishing attack that is carried out through phone calls. In this method, attackers impersonate legitimate organizations, such as banks, government agencies, or well-known companies, to trick individuals into revealing sensitive information. This information can include personal details like names, addresses, social security numbers, bank account credentials, or credit card numbers.

The perpetrators of adathalászhívás often employ social engineering tactics to create a sense of urgency or fear. They might claim there's a problem with the victim's account, that a suspicious transaction has occurred, or that they are due a refund. The goal is to pressure the recipient into acting quickly without thoroughly verifying the caller's identity. Sometimes, the calls may even appear to come from a familiar phone number, a technique known as caller ID spoofing, further enhancing the deception.

Victims are typically instructed to provide information over the phone or, in some cases, to visit a fraudulent website or download malicious software. If successful, the collected data can be used for identity theft, financial fraud, or other malicious purposes. It is crucial for individuals to be vigilant and skeptical of unsolicited calls requesting personal or financial information. Legitimate organizations rarely ask for such details over the phone. Instead, it is advisable to end the call and contact the organization directly using a verified phone number from their official website or a statement.
