In many products, acrylate moieties serve as reactive sites for curing or as pendant groups that modulate properties such as flexibility and polarity.

Safety and handling considerations include the potential for skin sensitization or irritation from some acrylates, with methacrylates being common allergens in dental and occupational settings. Proper ventilation and protective equipment are advised, and formulations typically include inhibitors to prevent premature polymerization during storage.
