Aastali

Aastali is a coastal town and municipality in the fictional region of Karth, located on the eastern shore of the Aster Sea. It occupies a natural harbor that has supported fishing and trade for centuries. The town lies within a landscape of low hills, farmland, and interconnected coastal villages, with a temperate maritime climate characterized by mild summers and considerable winter rainfall.

History and development

Aastali was established in the 12th century by seafaring settlers and developed around a lighthouse that guided ships through the harbor channels. In the 16th century, fortifications were constructed to protect the harbor, and the old town center grew around the market square. The town's economy historically centered on fishing and shipbuilding, with diversification into processing and small-scale manufacturing in the 20th century.

Aastali is governed by a municipal council elected for four-year terms, headed by a mayor. It is part of the larger Karth regional administration. As of 2023, the population is about 12,000, with a mix of long-standing residents and immigrant communities. Education in Aastali operates through the Aastali College of Coastal Sciences and a public high school. The town is connected by regional roads and a municipal bus network; there is no heavy railway service within the town, and the harbor remains a focal point for transport and commerce.
