APCbased

APCbased is a term used across multiple disciplines to describe systems, therapies, or technologies that are based on APCs. Because APC is an acronym with several common meanings, the exact interpretation of APCbased depends on context. In biomedical literature, APCbased most often denotes antigen-presenting cell–based approaches, particularly in cancer immunotherapy.

In this immunology context, APC-based strategies use antigen-presenting cells—most commonly dendritic cells or macrophages—to present disease-associated antigens to T cells. Therapeutic strategies include ex vivo loading of patient-derived dendritic cells with tumor or pathogen-derived peptides, followed by maturation and reinfusion, as well as in vivo methods that target APCs to deliver antigens. APCbased vaccines aim to stimulate specific cytotoxic or helper T-cell responses and are investigated in various cancers and infectious diseases.
