ABCanalízis

ABCanalízis is a fictional concept used in thought experiments within developmental systems and complex-systems studies to illustrate how multiple determinants can be canalized into a single developmental trajectory. The name combines AB, indicating the interaction of two broad classes of factors, A and B, with canalízis denoting canalization or the stabilization of outcomes despite variability in inputs.

In this framework, A and B can represent environmental inputs, social contexts, genetic constraints, or computational priors, depending on the domain. The theory posits two stages: an initial branching into alternative trajectories and a subsequent stabilization that suppresses divergence under typical perturbations. Feedback mechanisms—such as learning rules, selective pressures, or developmental checkpoints—favor one crest of the landscape, producing a robust, repeatable outcome.

Applications are chiefly hypothetical and pedagogical. In biology, ABCanalízis is used as a metaphor for how environmental and genetic factors jointly canalize traits. In cognitive science and artificial intelligence, it helps discuss how external rewards (A) and prior architectures or inductive biases (B) shape learning and behavior.

The concept has attracted critique for its lack of empirical specificity and potential conflation of metaphor with mechanism. Proponents emphasize its utility as a framing device, while opponents call for concrete operational definitions and testable predictions.
