9PunkteSkala, or the nine-point scale, is a rating instrument used to quantify subjective phenomena such as opinions, attitudes, or experiences. It comprises nine discrete response options that respondents select to indicate intensity, agreement, satisfaction, or other evaluative dimensions. Variants may use a 1 to 9 range, a 0 to 8 range, or include explicit verbal anchors at one or more points.

Common applications include measuring pain, mood, satisfaction, quality of life, or perceived usefulness in fields such as psychology, health care, education, and market research. The scale is valued for greater sensitivity and discrimination between closely spaced judgments compared with coarser scales (for example, 5-point scales). It can be used in cross-sectional surveys, longitudinal studies, and experimental settings.

Design considerations influence data quality. Clear anchors at endpoints (and, if used, at the midpoint) help respondents interpret each category consistently. The scale should be balanced around a neutral or reference point if measuring attitudes; otherwise centers can be avoided. Some implementations label all nine points; others leave most points unlabeled and rely on numeric values. While many researchers treat data from nine-point scales as interval data for statistical analysis, debates about scale measurement invariance and appropriate analysis methods remain.
