The 911angrepene, commonly known in English as the September 11 attacks, were a series of four coordinated terrorist attacks by the Islamic terrorist group al-Qaeda against the United States on the morning of Tuesday, September 11, 2001. The attacks resulted in 2,977 fatalities, over 6,000 injuries, and an estimated $10 billion in infrastructure and property damage.

The attacks involved the hijacking of four commercial airplanes. Two planes were deliberately crashed into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center complex in New York City, causing both towers to collapse. A third plane was crashed into the Pentagon, the headquarters of the United States Department of Defense, in Arlington, Virginia. The fourth plane, United Airlines Flight 93, crashed into a field in Stonycreek Township, Pennsylvania, after its passengers and crew attempted to regain control of the aircraft from the hijackers. It is believed the intended target for this plane was in Washington, D.C.

The mastermind behind the attacks was Osama bin Laden, the leader of al-Qaeda. The perpetrators were 19 al-Qaeda terrorists who had been planning the attacks for years. The immediate aftermath of the attacks saw a significant increase in global security measures and led to the United States launching the War on Terror, including military interventions in Afghanistan and Iraq.
