24398 is a minor planet orbiting the Sun as part of the main asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter. It was first observed on 25 August 2002 by the Spacewatch project at Kitt Peak National Observatory. The discovery was later confirmed by additional observations from the Minor Planet Center. The provisional designation assigned to the object was 2002 QG. The asteroid received its permanent number, 24398, after its orbit was well established. It has not yet been given a formal name and remains known by its numeral and provisional designation.

24398 follows a nearly circular heliocentric orbit with a semi-major axis of approximately 2.55 astronomical units. Its orbital period is about 4.07 years. The asteroid's eccentricity is 0.08 and its inclination relative to the ecliptic is roughly 6.3 degrees, placing it in the broad central region of the main belt. Photometric observations indicate a rotation period of about 3.8 hours, and the light curve suggests a modest amplitude, implying a relatively spheroidal shape. Based on its absolute magnitude of 15.6, its diameter is estimated to be around 3.5 kilometers, assuming a typical albedo for S-type asteroids.

The classification of 24398 as a stony (S-type) body is inferred from its spectral reflectance, which shows features consistent with silicate-rich compositions. No companion bodies or rings have been detected around the asteroid to date. The object has not been selected as a target for spacecraft missions, but its well-determined orbital parameters make it accessible for future study.
