129S6/SvEvTac is a commonly used inbred mouse strain that originates from the 129S6 strain combined with the strain designation SvEv (Sullivan- Evans) and the supplier designation Tac (TACSTD, The Jackson Laboratory). It is derived from the Swiss mouse 129 strain, which was one of the first mouse strains inbred for genetic research. The indicated numbers refer to the specific subline of the 129 progenitor and the mutation and breeding underwent at the Institute for Laboratory Animal Sciences at the University of Connecticut. The strain was brought into the animal facility environment by the Jackson Laboratory in the 1930s and the line has been maintained for over 200 generations as a pure inbred strain.
