Õigusi (Estonian for “rights”) denote the entitlements and freedoms that individuals possess and that societies and governments are obligated to protect. They arise from moral concepts of human dignity as well as from legal frameworks and treaties. Rights are commonly categorized into civil and political rights (such as freedom of speech, assembly, religion, and the right to a fair trial), social and economic rights (such as education, health care, work, and social security), and cultural rights (participation in cultural life and access to cultural heritage).
