Õiglusteooria, or "theory of justice" in English, refers to philosophical and political concepts that aim to define what constitutes a just society and how its resources, rights, and opportunities should be distributed. These theories explore fundamental questions about fairness, equality, and the moral basis for social arrangements.

A prominent figure in this field is John Rawls, whose influential work "A Theory of Justice" proposes principles for a just society derived from a hypothetical "original position" behind a "veil of ignorance." In this state, individuals are unaware of their own social status, talents, or conception of the good, leading them to choose principles that would be fair to all, regardless of their circumstances. Rawls argues for two main principles: the liberty principle, which ensures equal basic liberties for all, and the difference principle, which allows social and economic inequalities only if they benefit the least advantaged members of society and are attached to offices and positions open to all under conditions of fair equality of opportunity.

Other approaches to õiglusteooria exist, including utilitarianism, which advocates for maximizing overall happiness or well-being, and libertarianism, which emphasizes individual liberty and minimal government intervention.
