ínhüvelytokgyulladás, also known as tenosynovitis, is an inflammation of the synovial sheath that surrounds a tendon. This sheath is a protective layer that allows tendons to glide smoothly through the body. When the sheath becomes inflamed, it can cause pain, swelling, and stiffness, particularly during movement of the affected joint.

The condition can affect any tendon with a synovial sheath, but it is most commonly seen in the hands and wrists, such as in de Quervain's tenosynovitis. Other common locations include the ankles, feet, and shoulders. ínhüvelytokgyulladás can be caused by overuse, repetitive motions, injury, or certain medical conditions like rheumatoid arthritis or gout.

Symptoms typically include localized pain, tenderness, and swelling. A creaking or grating sensation, known as crepitus, may also be felt or heard as the tendon moves within the inflamed sheath. In some cases, a visible lump or nodule might form along the tendon.

Diagnosis is usually made through a physical examination, noting the patient's symptoms and medical history. Imaging tests like ultrasound or MRI may be used to confirm the diagnosis and assess the extent of the inflammation. Treatment aims to reduce inflammation and pain, and restore function. This often involves rest for the affected area, ice application, and anti-inflammatory medications. Physical therapy, splinting, or corticosteroid injections can also be part of the treatment plan. In severe or persistent cases, surgery might be considered to release pressure on the tendon.
