éhomi

Éhomi is a fictional language created for use in speculative fiction and role-playing settings. It is described as the native tongue of the coastal Éhomi people in a fictional archipelago and has been developed further by worldbuilders and fan communities to flesh out a sense of place and culture. Although not a real-world language, éhomi has a documented set of linguistic features within its fictional context and has inspired fan-made grammars, dictionaries, and audio recordings.

Phonology in the canonical descriptions centers on a modest consonant inventory and a five-vowel system. Common consonants include p, t, k, m, n, s, l, r, and h, with occasional glottal stops noted in some dialects. The language is described as tonal, typically employing two level tones plus occasional contour tones in borrowed or stylistic words. Word stress is usually penultimate, though some in-world forms may vary by morphological type.

Grammar is presented as an agglutinative, subject–object–verb language. Nouns carry postpositional case markers to indicate grammatical role, number, and definiteness, while verbs attach multiple affixes to indicate tense, aspect, mood, and evidential source. A formal pronoun system encodes clusivity, person, and politeness. Adjectival semantics often function as relative clauses, and there is a modest system of honorifics used in ceremonial speech.

Writing in the fictional setting includes an original syllabary used for formal inscriptions and a romanization used by scholars and fans. In-world texts are described as highly formulaic in ceremonial contexts but flexible in everyday conversation, allowing for variation across dialects in different islands.

Éhomi remains a primarily fictional construct, but it has a notable presence in conlang communities and fan culture as an example of worldbuilding-driven linguistic invention.
