årringar
Årringar, also known as growth rings or tree rings, are concentric circles found in the cross-section of tree trunks and woody stems. They are a result of the tree's seasonal growth pattern. In temperate climates, trees typically grow more actively during the spring and summer months, producing wider, lighter-colored wood called earlywood. As the growing season progresses into autumn and winter, growth slows, and the wood produced is denser and darker, known as latewood.
Each pair of earlywood and latewood layers constitutes a single annual growth ring. The width and characteristics
The study of årringar is called dendrochronology. This scientific discipline uses the patterns of these rings
