Överarmsmätare

Överarmsmätare is a Swedish term that translates to "upper arm cuff" or "upper arm monitor." It refers to a device used to measure blood pressure at the upper arm. These devices are commonly used in medical settings and by individuals for home blood pressure monitoring.

The upper arm is considered the standard site for accurate blood pressure measurement because the brachial artery, located there, is at the level of the heart. This placement helps to minimize errors that can occur with measurements taken at the wrist or finger.

Överarmsmätare typically consist of an inflatable cuff that wraps around the upper arm. When activated, the cuff inflates to temporarily stop blood flow in the brachial artery. Then, it slowly deflates, and the device detects the pressure at which blood flow resumes (systolic pressure) and the pressure at which blood flow is no longer restricted (diastolic pressure). Modern digital överarmsmätare often use oscillometric methods to detect these pressure changes and display the readings electronically. Some devices also measure pulse rate. These devices are often recommended by healthcare professionals for regular monitoring of cardiovascular health.
