Önismétlség

Önismétlség, also referred to as narcissistic personality disorder, is a term used in Hungarian psychoanalytic theory to describe a pattern of behavior where an individual has an excessive need for admiration and a lack of empathy for others. The concept was introduced by Vilma Kovács, a Hungarian psychoanalyst, in the 1950s.

According to Kovács, önismétlség is characterized by a grandiose sense of self-importance, a need for constant admiration, and a lack of empathy for others. Individuals with önismétlség often engage in manipulative and exploitative behavior to achieve their own ends, while maintaining a facade of charm and charisma. They may also be preoccupied with fantasies of unlimited success, power, and greatness.

In contrast to the more general concept of narcissism, önismétlség is specifically tied to the Hungarian psychoanalytic tradition. It is often differentiated from other personality disorders, such as borderline personality disorder, by its more subtle expressions of narcissistic traits. While individuals with önismétlség may exhibit some of the same behaviors as those with narcissistic personality disorder, such as a grandiose sense of self-importance, the nuances of their behavior and motivations can be distinct.

Önismétlség is considered a defense mechanism against feelings of insecurity, anxiety, and vulnerability. By projecting an image of confidence and grandeur, individuals with önismétlség may feel protected from the threats of reality, despite their underlying insecurities. As such, önismétlség is often seen as a coping mechanism that allows individuals to navigate the challenges of life while maintaining a fragile sense of self.
